Baby Nina

So here is another great example of how awesome it is to take part with another new chapter for the Uffinger family.  I can remember meeting Amy and Justin for their first photo session back in 2010.  It was for their engagement session.

Now fast forward six years, several sessions, two houses and two babies later,  this awesome family has continued to keep me in mind!

Big brother Max did an awesome job and looked cute as always! He is now three year's old and is showing an interest in being a big brother as he was able to hold her and give her a few kisses.

Nina is named after her great-grandmother and is the first baby girl for the grandparents!  I loved hearing that these guys decided to not find out her gender until after she was born. Of course, I can only imagine the excitement after learning about having a baby daughter to take home.

She is nothing less than perfect!  Congratulations on the latest addition to the Uffinger household!

Leslie c/o 2017

This past weekend I got to meet one of the future graduates of Cold Spring High School.  Leslie is going to be graduating this upcoming year and I couldn't be more excited for her! I enjoyed meeting Leslie, her best friend Paige and mom.  They decided to take a road trip to Birmingham for her senior portrait session, to which I suggested Railroad Park.

I appreciate them making the drive and hope they enjoyed some of the city's new sights!  Everyone was so much fun during the session and I felt it took no time at all to grab some great shots of Leslie. She is a natural in front of the camera!!

I would like to wish her the best of luck for the upcoming school year.  Class of 2017 is just around the corner.  It had me thinking how my twenty year reunion is too!  Wow, how time flies and I know that her senior year will too, so I hope she enjoys every moment of it.

She is a beautiful young lady and I know that she will do well with anything she puts her mind to.

Hello Goodbye

This past week I have been absorbed with sorting through my work, revisiting older images and reviving my portfolio. Since I am no longer taking on weddings, I have decided to take out the majority of my wedding images and make more room for other works to showcase.

I am hoping to encourage people out there to book portrait sessions with more of a documentary approach, so I'm hoping for the 'if you build it they will come' mentality... This will result in a very non-traditional portrait folio full of black and white candids, environmental and scenic as well as street photography..

My definition of a successful portrait session is one that has reflection, mood, realism and honest moments. I want to capture all these elements in hopes that the images captured will not be that of a generic postcard but rather that of the individual that you are.

I think the reason why I continued to book weddings for as long as I did is because wedding photography truly has all these elements in it.  It has a beautiful environment, honest moments and it is full of emotion.  I realize that this will definitely be one of the things that I will miss most out of the wedding day.

I've always enjoyed new chapters and challenges, so I am anxious and excited about building a new portfolio for the upcoming year!

Arianna Marie

I can't even begin to try in words what a precious newborn session I experienced first thing this morning! This baby girl is only 11 days old and seems to be getting into the swing of things.  She didn't want to miss out on all the fun we had so she tried her best to try and stay awake.. but it didn't take long for her to fade into her food coma!

Camden is the big brother and seems to be doing great with his new baby sister. He even got to hold her which his expression was full of pride and joy!! Such a priceless expression!

I really enjoyed meeting the Plaia family for the first time today.  They made me feel right at home and am very appreciative of the referral that sent them my way.  Newborn lifestyle sessions are always a personal favorite of mine because there are so many sweet moments that are to be captured.

I do hope these guys will enjoy the images we were able to grab as I have a feeling that this year is going to fly by!

Congratulations on your gorgeous baby girl.. she is perfect!

Questions for Karlie

I love,, LOVE, this sweet girl!!  Karlie is such a breath of fresh air.  She is modern yet has a very elegant twist of tradition that really inspires me rather it be from wearing her grandmother's wedding gown that her mom also wore to wearing a beautiful family heirloom diamond ring that belonged to her husband's great-grandmother.. So when I asked if she was having a boy or a girl she admitted that they were not going to find out until her delivery date.

How amazing and exciting this is to not know. We have too many things planned out in life so to just purely enjoy the moment and excitement of wondering what will it be.. a boy or a girl makes the anticipation all that much more!!

We are all taking dibs on if it is going to be a boy or a girl.. I'm thinking it will be a girl but we won't find out until a few more weeks. She is due at the end of this month and looks fabulous, as always!!

It was a great time catching up with these two expecting parents.  It was my first time to see these guys since their move back to Birmingham.. and that has been well over a year. So I am glad to have a fun excuse to get over to their home, catch up and also take a few snaps while we were at it!

She is going to be such a beautiful new mommy to her baby girl or baby boy.. We will know sooner or later!

Fun with Eloise

This past Sunday I was able to end my weekend festivities with baby Eloise for her six month session. I think everyone left with the 'Hippopotamus' song in their head as this seems to be her favorite word at the moment! All her mommy had to do was start singing, and on que,  Eloise was all smiles.

Needless to say, smile or no smiles, she is just precious.  Her sweet disposition, curious expressions and soft baby skin has me counting down until I get to photograph her again for her one year!

By the looks of it, it will not surprise me at all if she starts walking before she turns one.  She is six months and needed no assistance from mom or dad when it came to sitting up all on her own.

I think this year has gone by too fast :( one more session and then Eloise is going to be a toddler that will soon become a young girl.  Time needs to slow down!!

Grande Finale

I once asked a National Geographic photographer if he'd ever photographed a wedding before.. He laughed at me and said once and only once.  I knew what he meant by that statement. We spoke a little bit more on the different genres of photography out there and I agreed whole heartedly when he said 'wedding photography is too much work.'

It truly is an honor that I sat in the living room of this inspirational and talented photographer telling me that my job was hard.  There is nothing like wedding photography and I don't feel that a professional photographer can comprehend  what stress is until they walk into a bridal suite with 10 bridesmaids, family and a very critical bride that expects her day to be nothing less than perfect and of course not to mention keeping order and everything on time while being creative.

So, yes, ten years of shooting in the wedding industry can create a lot of anxiety in a photographer. You not only are expected to be everywhere and capture everything but you also must  fulfill and deliver the images on a very timely and might I add quick turn around.

I honestly feel that I can say without a doubt I've reached my wedding photography potential. I've photographed just about every kind of wedding out there.the only way to break into a different style and type of photography is to slowly stop agreeing to book weddings so I can be more willing and able to grow, change and encourage a new vision.

I once read a quote that said 'when you are through changing, you are through.' and 'if you do what you always did, you will get what you always got.' These words were powerful enough for me to see myself in another ten years. Life is all about choices and chances and I do know one thing, if I continue to do what I've always done then I can almost guarantee I will be where I've always been.

My inner voice is speaking to me and my intuition guides me as it is saying that I have reached the best I can honestly be at weddings and now my world needs a new challenge, a new day and a new outlook.

I feel good about finishing up 5 more weddings before I can honestly say I will have a clear head and conscious to start over with something else. I do hope you will follow my journey as I discover through trial and error what it is to take chances.
